Student athletes at Aurora West College Preparatory Academy recently received the surprise of their lives during what they thought was just a normal basketball practice.
While the boys and girls varsity and junior varsity basketball teams were taking a group photo, Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray strolled into the gym.
A look of shock immediately came over the students as Murray walked up to them and started giving fist bumps and handshakes. Murray then took photos with the teams, helped lead them through a shoot-around session and provided some tips and motivation for the players.
Aurora West is a small school with about 900 students in grades 6-12. The high school basketball teams have been struggling this year with both the boys and girls teams still working to get their first win. Murray encouraged the players to keep building their love for the game of basketball and that success would eventually follow.
Murray's appearance was made possible by UCHealth. As a UCHealth partner, Jamal promoted starting the year with healthy habits and staying active during his visit. He even gave out free Jamal Murray-branded New Balance sweatshirts to all of the players.
What an amazing experience for our Aurora West students! Thank you to Jamal Murray and UCHealth for supporting our student athletes!
