Planning for Upcoming Organizational Restructure Effective July 1
From Superintendent Michael Giles, Jr.:
Over the past school year, I have listened and asked staff, parents, students and the community about our strengths and challenges. While we have so many strengths to celebrate, I also recognize that we need to make changes in order to reach new levels of success.
In that spirit, I want to share information with you about our upcoming organizational restructure that will take effect on July 1 and why it is important that we make these changes.
There are several important reasons why we need to make the following upcoming organizational changes. To begin, I have heard the resounding need to provide more aligned and strategic support for schools. This means that school leaders know exactly which district staff will be able to help with what they need and that the support is direct and strategic.
One of the biggest changes you will notice is that we are welcoming a new Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Jesús Rodríguez. Dr. Rordriguez joined us in the first week of April and will oversee many critical functions, but also provide a deep level of instructional and school leadership experience that I think we most critically need.
In addition, school leaders and staff have a constant tension to balance both instructional/academic priorities with the operational/cultural needs of running a school. Our vision with this restructure is to make sure that we are balancing both of those incredibly important sides of managing schools.
Thus, we will have our
Chief Academic Officer (Dr. Nia Campbell) and our new
Chief of School Leadership (Craig Lyle) leading the Division of Equity in Learning together. It is my vision that when both sides of school support work collaboratively and seamlessly together, we will have aligned and strategic support, so we can be more proactive in addressing concerns rather than reactive.
In addition, our current
Chief of Staff (Mark Seglem) will move into the
Chief Operating Officer role and you will notice that many of the functions under our Chief Operating Officer will remain the same.
We have also implemented some department changes (highlighted in blue in the
updated organization chart). Career and Technical Education, College and Career Success and Student Records will be moving to Curriculum and Instruction. Mental Health will be part of our Exceptional Student Services Team. Lastly, Accountability and Research will be moving under our Chief Academic Officer.
The Chief of School Leadership will lead the School Performance Team, Athletics and Activities, Behavior Systems Support, Centralized Admissions, Health Services and Safety & Security.
The last notable department shift is that Engagement and After-School Programs will report to our Executive Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
